Julia Ross (she/her/hers) is a graduate of Berklee College of Music, Bachelor of Professional Music, concentrating in Music Business, Musical Theatre Writing, and Contemporary Writing and Production, and a minor in Musical Theatre Conducting. She spent her time leading The Underground Choir, singing with PXL8, editing poetry with The Garden, and on the field with Berklee’s Ultimate Frisbee team. You may also see her music directing for a theatre club or local production! She served three years in the role of Treasurer for the Berklee Student Government Association. She also served consistently as an orientation leader and campus life community connector from the fall of 2019 to 2021.
Despite the transition from in-person classes to virtual classes due to Covid-19, Julia has consistently earned a place on the Dean’s list for her excellent academic performance. This achievement speaks to her commitment, perseverance, and flexibility. Julia is currently working on Red Glow, an original musical, where she is serving as composer, lyricist, book writer, and orchestrator. The show follows Charlie, a college student in the not-so-distant future, as he searches for a way to solve the global food shortage. All of the struggles, fears, and triumphs – from his explosive failure of a hydroponic plant growth system to his discovery of a microscope with a magical capability – are depicted with razor-sharp focus as the young scientist navigates the hybrid world of agriculture technology. Born and raised in Wilmington, North Carolina, Julia attended John T Hoggard High School and graduated with honors in 2018. She first fell in love with theatre in middle school, performing in her first musical revue, A Knight to Remember, at Roland-Grise Middle School, where she was involved in the performance percussion group, “Trashcan Therapy”. The next year, she played the role of Ms. Darbus in High School Musical, Jr. Unfortunately, Hoggard High School did not have a musical theatre department or an auditorium, so she joined the choir program and began performing for Thalian Association Community Theatre (TACT). She consistently performed an average of four shows a year from freshman year to her senior year in the local community, finding a passion for script editing, music direction, and vocal arranging along the way. |
